Arabic is a Semitic language spoken by over 221 million people in Asia and some other parts of the world. Colloquial Arabic has over 30 different varieties, the most widely understood among them perhaps is the Egyptian variety which is spoken by about 50 million people in Egypt. The next in popularity is the Algerian Arabic which has about 22 million speakers in Algeria. Other popular varieties of colloquial Arabic include Moroccan/Maghrebi and Sudanese.
